Glow inside and out...

Facial Enhancement Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture with Catherine is a natural and an increasingly popular way of rejuvenating and revitalising the face using ancient techniques steeped in history with a modern twist.

Many who invest in this treatment report a noticeable lifting action, a reduction in fine lines and an overall brightening of their natural complexion whilst helping problems areas (acne, rosacea etc). As well as enhancing the appearance of your skin, the treatment will also help to re-balance your body from a holistic approach so you may also report an increased sense of wellbeing, after all, how can you look great on the outside if you don’t feel so great from within?

Catherine trained with Paul Adkins, founder of Facial Enhance Acupuncture and provides this service at The Garden Room, Didcot.

What does it involve?

It involves the placement of very fine needles into various points on the face and body (all the needles used are single use and pre-sterilised). Points on the body are always incorporated into the session to balance out the treatment and avoid too much Qi (aka your body’s energy) being directed to the face. These points on your body will support and enhance the facial acupuncture - therefore it is recommended that your practitioner is a qualified acupuncturist.

How does it work?

Facial Enhancement Acupuncture has been said to:

  • Increase blood circulation which aids lymphatic drainage and detox.

  • Tighten muscles in the face that may neck to lift and firm.

  • Stimulate collagen which helps to plump up the skin.

  • Promote cell regeneration which aid the reduction in appearance of fine lines.

  • Regulate hormones which improve the overall appearance of the skin for a brighter, clearer complexion.

From a TCM perspective skin conditions will be diagnosed according to the presenting symptoms. For instance:

  • excess sebum/bacteria which would be treated by clearing excess Damp,

  • skin eruptions can be linked to inflammation so we would incorporate additions points to clear Heat in the body.

  • Frequently there is a stress/emotional element to skin conditions so additional points to calm the nervous system and calm the mind are used.

  • A technique called ‘surround the dragon’ can be useful for particular areas of redness, swelling or scars whereby small localised needles are placed around the area.
